A System Token is used to manage your account, for example to query your account balance. It is a different kind of token from the API token (business token) used to call models, so be careful not to mix them up.

System Token Management

Create, view, and manage your system tokens.

System tokens vs. API tokens

The two token types are not interchangeable: an API token starting with sk- cannot access the System APIs, and a system token cannot be used to call models.

Create a system token

Go to Account Settings → System Tokens and click “Create New System Token” on the right. The list shows the following information for each system token:
  • Created at, ID, and Name
  • Status, for example “Enabled”
  • Expires at: the token’s validity period
  • Note: lets you record what the token is used for
  • Actions: click ··· on the right to manage the token
Each account can create up to 5 system tokens. Once you reach the limit, delete an old token before creating a new one.

Available System APIs

System tokens currently support the following feature only, with more to be added over time:

Security recommendations

  • Never expose it in frontend code: system tokens manage your account, so use them only in your own backend services or local scripts
  • Don’t share it: don’t commit it to a repository, or paste it into tickets, chats, or screenshots
  • Don’t hard-code it: inject it through environment variables or a secrets manager (CI/CD secrets, Vault, etc.)
  • Clean up regularly: delete tokens you no longer use; if you suspect a leak, delete the token immediately and create a new one
